Last weekend I was cordially invited to take part in the Bloggers’ event in Berlin, organised by the Viking – #DIYmitVIKING. The event took place at one of these fancy cafes – the DaWanda Snuggery – located in Charlottenburg. The place itself was very nice, it’s a designer shop and a tiny cafe all-in-one, full of great stuff and wonderful people. A lot of Berlin bloggers were there, so before the Workshops started, we had a great opportunity to get to know each other a bit better and to try some really delicious vegan snacks.
After a snack we had three different workshops, following one another: Modern calligraphy with Jeannette, Origami with Mareike and Stencil Printing with Angelo and Deborah.
CALLIGRAPHY
I would say, that when I was a school girl calligraphy was one of my favourite subjects at school, so I was rather happy to try it once again after all these “adult” years. But you have to have a lot of patience, otherwise, you can do a real mess and destroy all the beauty of your letters. Not for shaky hands, though, that’s for sure.
STENCIL PRINTING
The next Workshop was a stencil printing, which is very close to fashion (if you know, what I mean). We had to produce our own rucksack. Although we were limited in the design choices, prepared on special paper for transfer onto the rucksack’s surface, the final result was rather impressive. And I kind of liked it.
ORIGAMI
And the final Workshop was all about origami – so with a square sheet of paper and some folding techniques involved we tried to create a couple of mini lamp shades for lights and found how difficult it actually can be. And to be honest, I really have never been good at it.
Summing up all of the above, I’d like to say that the event itself was very interesting and absolutely enthralling. I had the opportunity to try all the things from my childhood, and it was rather inspiring. I will for sure continue with calligraphy and maybe someday I will do my own beautiful logo, who knows!
